EMCC OFFERING WORKFORCE TRAINING TO ELIGIBLE SNAP RECIPIENTS

Area residents who qualify can get free short-term workforce training at East Mississippi Community College through the Skills2Work (S2W) program.
The training is available through EMCC鈥檚 Workforce and Community Services Division. Programs of study include Certified Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technology, Phlebotomy, Medical Coding, Manufacturing Skills Basic, Welding, Commercial Drivers License and Welding.
To qualify, applicants must: be enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP; reside in EMCC鈥檚 district, which includes Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Noxubee and Kemper counties; and present a Silver-level National Career Readiness Certificate, which can be obtained at EMCC.
鈥淭he purpose of the program is to provide SNAP recipients with work skills that are in demand by local employers,鈥� EMCC Workforce and Community Outreach Program Director Sha鈥機arla Petty said. 鈥淭he best part is there is no cost other than the students鈥� time and motivation.鈥�
The S2W program is funded by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Those accepted into the program are eligible for support services such as assistance with transportation costs, testing fees and training supplies and materials.
